GUIDELINES AND CERTIFICATION FOR HOST FAMILIES
The Children of War Rescue Project seeks stable homes with families that generate warmth and friendliness and a generosity of heart.
These children and their guardians have much to deal with.
They are not only struggling with the burden of medical treatment and the pain and discomfort that goes along with it,
but also with an unfamiliar culture and surroundings. So choosing the right host setting for each child and accompanying guardian is important.
We seek host families that are able to provide a living environment that is relatively stress-free.
Host families should be prepared to serve as hosts for a period of six (6) months.
Because some children seeking medical care will require several surgeries as well as convalescent time in between,
some host families may wish to consider serving for as long as one year.
The host family must be able to provide a private bedroom and, if possible, a private bathroom.
In addition, they will be expected to invite the child and accompanying guardian to feel welcome in all common areas of their home.
This would include inviting the child and accompanying guardian to share all family meals and participate in family events.
Host families should be financially stable. Host families are all volunteer and do not receive payment for hosting,
but may request financial assistance from sponsors to help defray the costs of feeding the child and accompanying guardian and,
if necessary, providing toilet articles, replacing clothing, and similar expenses.
The host family should have no one living in their household who has been convicted of a sex crime, a drug-related crime, or an offense involving alcohol abuse.
The host family must be willing to undergo a background check.
The host family should be willing to work with the sponsoring organization, volunteer transportation providers,
and volunteer translators to create a schedule of activities geared to the child's and his/her accompanying guardian's interests.
These activities, while intended to acquaint the child and accompanying guardian about the surrounding community
and further the child's education to the extent possible, would also provide the host family with some private time.
Host families are chosen without regard to race, sexual orientation, marital status or religion.
"I / We , the undersigned, hereby certify that I / we meet the criteria stipulated above."
