"United Nations Peacekeeping Forces provided 21 armored vehicles for medical evacuation from the combat zone. Evacuees were then transferred to "Operation Angel" ambulances at Metkovic, Croatia, and transported to the Aerodrome in Split, where they were put on U.N. medical evacuation planes bound for Ancona, Italy. Following stabilization, the wounded were flown to medical centers throughout western Europe and the United States."
